The establishment of this department is to meet the needs of economic development by creating new visual transmissions and path-finding approaches to designs. It combines visual planning with design and media technology, fosters inter-disciplinary ability visual communication designs and develops capability of thinking, analysis, decision making, and creativity in students. It cultivates the required pluralistic skill of designs, combines theory with practice in science and the humanities to broaden national and international horizons. It also provides students with opportunities of career development and advanced studies, emphasizing physical fitness and professional ethics of students. The department promotes the development of national digital content industry, innovation of technical services and cultural beautification.

Professional Practices:

1.The department plans ‘visual planning and design’ and ‘video and media design’ programs to enhance student design skills.

2.The department offers professional facilities, including the solid modeling design classroom, commercial photography studio, video studio, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) classroom, graphic design classroom, design drawing classroom, video and media post-production studio; and software involving the adobe design collection, Autodesk 3Dmax, Autodesk Maya, iClone, etc.

3.The department encourages and assists students to obtain the qualifications of level B technician and level C technician, and design-related professional certifications, e.g. Techficiency Quotient Certification(TQC), Adobe Certified Associate (ACA), etc. The staff of the department have participated in numerous national and international design contests and presented outstanding performancesin 2014. In particular, one of its students won a world silver medal
